I love these kinds of images. Makes you imagine what was there and why it is now gone.
Reminds me of a posting of mine a few months ago:

Your shot is great – I love how that now-gone building was made from stones instead of brick, and I also like the ghosts of the arched openings in the brick.

Thanks, Ashley. I took this a few months ago, but never really cared for it that much. But then, a few days ago, something about it caught my attention and I decided it was blog-worthy.

Isn’t it interesting how we view our own work so differently over time?
This is definitely one of my favourites of yours. I love how the layers work, how you can focus on the textures of the bricks and then the shape of “what used to be.”
Ahem! You asked me to prod you re: your written posts. I’m gently prodding. 🙂

This is why I never delete photos! There are quite a few that I post after initially thinking they weren’t any good.
It’s funny that mentioned the other blog; I was thinking about it earlier, at the office, and was about to go prowl around and see if I could find something to post. But then I had to WORK. At work! Can you believe it!? But anyway, stand by shortly for something new. And thanks for the reminder.

All those bricks carry a meaning of human skills and industry now abandoned, at least on this side of the building. For me it is the embroidery of bricks that ‘makes’ this image.

Thanks, Vera. I really like your phrase “embroidery of bricks.” I don’t know if you saw this link from an earlier commenter, but I think you’ll like his photo, too: http://2look.blogspot.com/2013/10/who-stole-house.html It also has that same kind of embroidery.

Yes, I remembered that your like a particular kind of brick. If I am not wrong they are present in this building. I also like the blocked windows and door; it looks like somebody wanted to shut up their screams — (what can I say.. I have a fervid imagination…) —

You have a good memory – I do have a favorite brick! It’s that long, skinny one called a Roman brick.
There is something oddly compelling about bricked-over doors and windows, isn’t there?

The layers of history. I like the geometry of this.

Thanks, Andy. There is a big building boom in Austin, and it won’t be long before this parking lot turns into a high rise building, and all these layers will be obscured.

I am enamored of ghost buildings myself, and this may be my all-time favorite. I like how you took the photo straight on rather than at an angle. There are so many ghosts here, and so much detail! Besides the composition, I also love the variety of tones.

Thanks, Linda. I took several shots of this wall, from all kinds of angles, but this was the only one I liked.
