Two lights
This is one of those design ideas that might have looked really good on paper, but which didn’t really work out that well when the building was finished.
The lower level of the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center (where no one goes, mostly) has some broad pedestrian walkways that lead…well, they sort of don’t lead anywhere. But they don’t mind if you take their portrait.
And those two little lights work hard to light the way, in case someone happens to walk by.

Love the texture and light on that back wall. The composition also works (for me) without the tile in the foreground.

Linda, now that you’ve brought it to my attention, I like it better that way, too. It makes the whole scene look more ominous. Thanks for mentioning it!

Brrrr, this shot makes me want to go put a sweater on. I agree with Linda’s suggestion. Also, it might work well with a looming shadow coming around the wall. I wonder if a Patient Spouse could provide one for you, or is the lighting never cooperative at this location?

The Patient Spouse is the project architect for a big renovation at the civic center, so he’d probably go back there for another photo shoot – billable hours, you see….
I like your idea of a looming shadow; I don’t know if it will work or not, but I’ll give it a try and let you know.

Oh, horrors!! (the shadow that is).

The shadow will be lurching toward the photographer. What happens next will be anyone’s guess!

The light on that far wall just as it disappears out of sight round the bend is superb – it makes the picture. Nice work, Melinda

Thanks, Andy. Shooting this one – with that light curving away – reminded me of drawing class in architecture, when we learned how to shade curves and etc. with soft lead pencil.
