One lightbulb and one star

080615

I was never lucky enough to get to see this sign when it had all its parts and when the Stardust Motel was operational. But I guess that’s OK, since I am sort of fond of the parts that are still there.

An attempt to blend in

080515

When I was inside this place, I looked out the (glass-free) window and saw this trailer house trying to camouflage itself. It was doing a pretty good job, I guess, except for those two satellite dishes on top.

Pool

This swimming pool is in the same county park as yesterday’s picnic shelter, although depending on your definition of “swimming pool,” it might be more of a concrete pit with water in it.

The Critical Element

080315

This county park south of Marathon is an oasis – there’s a small dam across a stream, which makes for a nice wetlands habitat. There are big elm trees, too, so even in the heat of summer it’s a nice place to visit.

But if you’re planning a picnic, this particular picnic shelter is probably not your best option.

Roadside Eagle

I pulled over because there was a scenic overlook, across a narrow valley to the mountains. But when I saw that graffiti on the rocks, I sort of forgot about the view.
