A wrench in the works

The same broken down, rusted truck had been parked outside this place for at least four years, so I figured if I went in to look around, there’d be no one else there.

And I was right. I was the only one there, and I found the usual assortment of odd, abandoned things. Like a two-legged chair. And a giant wrench.

All in all, it was worth the stop.

  1. Bill Gannon: “What do you think happened here?”
Joe Friday: “I don’t know. Must’ve happened fast — they must’ve left in a hurry.”
Gannon: “What makes you say that?”
Friday: “Well, a man doesn’t leave a wrench like that unless something bad’s happening.”

  2. Exquisite! So many things to contemplate here. Most of all I like the scenes on the wall—um—through the door and windows, I mean. Maybe they take on their importance largely because of the contrast with all the decorations and architectural features inside the building.

  3. Indeed…quite worth the stop.

  4. I was wondering where I left my giant wrench. Thanks!
