Terri Hendrix’s Guitar
Almost twenty years ago, my friend Darryl called to invite me to a concert; he said the musician was great and would be worth the drive (90 miles, one way). I turned him down, because it was in the middle of the week and I didn’t want to get home that late. Darryl, never one to take no for an answer, kept asking and asking until it was finally easier to give in.
And so it was that on that night in Nazareth, Texas, I became a fan of Terri Hendrix and her music and have followed her career ever since. Recently, she and her musical partner, the incomparable Lloyd Maines stopped by Lubbock to perform at a house concert.
(Another thing that happened at that house concert is that I was called on stage to sing the chorus of the encore song. My singing out loud in public actually violated several local ordinances, mostly dealing with nuisance noises, but I wasn’t arrested or anything. Also, I stood as far away from the mic as I could get.)

Awesome! On all accounts.

Thanks, RIchard. In addition to being great musicians, Terri and Lloyd are two of the nicest, most genuine people I’ve ever met.

If only the Dixie Chicks knew there was an actual, proper celebrity in the audience…

If only. (Actually Lloyd Maines was able to get us after show passes so we got to meet Natalie. It was way cool.)

I’m curious how she came to choose you to sing.

I think she was blinded by the stage lights and thought she was asking someone else…
Not really – we’ve gotten to be friends over the years and she’s always generous with her appreciation.
