Four Doors
This place used to be a motel. This must have been the low-rent section, because the other part had carports next to the rooms; that’s a nice touch if you need to leave your car outside in a Texas summer.
But the arrangements of four doors and four windows was quite pleasing.

Fleur-de-lis
The fleur-de-lis has a long history that spans religious, political, artistic, and other symbols. Of course, it’s also used as a decorative element in headboards, as seen here.
I think the fleur-de-lis designs really class up this scene, in a roofless building in a tiny Texas town. And not only that, they seem to be providing some sort of building-security function at the same time. Way to go, fleurs!
(Also: WordPress is pretty sure I meant to type “flour-de-lis,” which just shows what they know.)

Trees Beyond
Across the broad lawn, a loudspeaker carried the sounds of Mass (in Spanish) almost as if the ghosts of the Spanish founders of the mission were still trying to convert the locals.
And I found a quiet scene unfolding beyond the ruins of a never-completed mission building.
