Because of course I walked down an alley the other day when I was in Boulder. Which is how I got see the late sun illuminating this basketball goal.

Two stairways, and a balcony

On a short trip at the end of the summer, we drove through McCook, Nebraska, where I found a very interesting alley (which you’ve already seen here). To be honest, I don’t know what the street side of this place looked like, but it’s hard to imagine that it’s any better than this, with the sign, the stairs, the balcony, the satellite dishes, the house plants, and that extra tire.

Utility

What caught my eye initially were the boxes on the utility pole, the banged-up downspout, and the glass blocks in the window. But then, what had been just a blotch of paint on a pole started to look like a face…

By now, I am sure that everyone knows that I think alleys are just a great place to look for photographic opportunities.

When I was in Chicago, walking up (I think it was “up”) Michigan Avenue (unless it was another street), I saw this fantastic scene:  an alley that was below street level, that curved away from me, but toward the light.

I wanted to follow it.

An alley. Again. Of course.

It’s been a long time since I posted a shot from an alley.

If you think between May 9 and May 15 qualifies as “a long time.”

But, anyway, here’s an alley in the Loop, in Chicago. As alleys go, this is quite tidy.
