Boots, buildings, and why one reminded me of the other
I realize that maybe my mind operates in a slightly more random way than might be considered normal.
That’s why this building reminded me of ostrich skin boots.

by the gifts of the citizens
About five or six times a year, I head over to Crosbyton, Texas, for a meeting. About four or five times a year, I somehow overlook grabbing my camera before I leave. This time, though, not only did I have my camera, but I got to town a little early and had time to circle the block to get this shot.
I’d say it’s been a while since the citizens of Crosbyton donated “gifts” that resulted in this mural.
It’s also been a while since there was passenger train service in Crosbyton, so the depot depicted here (I guess) represents the artist’s nostalgia over bygone days when one could catch a train to…somewhere. The Texas Historical Society has this to say about trains, “On April 10, 1911, the first train left on the Crosbyton-South Plains Railroad.” No word on where it was going, if it ever came back, if there were any subsequent departures.

Keep out
Two things here:
– The KEEP OUT painted on the wall, because the state of the yard made the sign unnecessary.
– The way the leaves of the plant make that lovely radial pattern which is such a nice counterpoint to the hard rectangles of the window openings.
Of course I had to stop.

PS – For those of you keeping score, this is the 13th post taken on August 16. Yes – a good day.
It was one of those days
There are days when every single thing I see seems like it ought to be a photograph. Those days can be mentally exhausting. But they can be – and usually are – exhilarating. Those are the days when I just know that this is what I am supposed to be doing: wandering around, taking pictures.
This day was one of those days: this is the 12th picture I’ve posted that I took on August 16. And there’s surely more to come. August 16 was a very, very good day.
