Wingate, round 2
The second in a very short series* of shots from Wingate, another one of the little towns that gets smaller very day.
It’s not like it was ever that big, I guess; the population seems to have peaked at 250 in the 1940s. At that time, the town had a school, a bank, and a post office. In 1991, the school district was absorbed by another town. The population dropped to 132 in 2000, and it wasn’t even listed in the 2010 count.

If you need to stop for the night
Say you’ve decided to check out the West Sweden Cemetery for yourself, and need a place to spend the night. You might check here first, seeing as it’s got refrigerated air as well as vented heat. I’m not all that sure what “vented heat” is, but it must be nice if a fancy place like the Hi-Way Motel has it.

There’s just the one terminal
Well, sure the sign DOES say “Terminal A.” Good luck finding Terminal B, though, as there’s only one terminal, and it only has one gate.
The good news is that baggage claim isn’t very far away.
Oh, and the runway is listed as “gravel/grass.”

The night door
Next to this building, the soft light of the frosted-glass door spills out onto South Congress Avenue. I had to time the shot to occur during gaps in pedicabs heading down the sidewalk toward the more lively parts of South Congress.

Dirty windows
Just like this place, I have the idea this vacant building won’t be around too much longer. It used to be the location of a very interesting furniture store, but it’s in sort of an awkward location – across the lake from downtown, too far up Congress from the hip SoCo neighborhood. I hope that the stonework survives whatever comes next. And that someone washes the windows.
