The Way
Maybe you remember that I took a photography class from Keith Carter back in the summer?
In class he said, “Don’t take pictures of churches.”
In class he said, “Don’t take pictures of cemeteries.”
In class he said, “There are no rules.”
Maybe what he meant to say is that he doesn’t take pictures of churches. Or cemeteries. And that each of us must seek our own way, and photograph accordingly.

Duality
This is the last of the images from the model shoot from Keith Carter’s class. The model had the idea to use a daylily as a prop, and her pose happened to line up the real flower with the tattooed one in a very serendipitous way.
I appreciate everyone’s patience with my artistic detour. While I didn’t hate photographing models as much as I thought I would, it’s not something I plan to do again (unless it’s for another class.) Starting tomorrow, I’ll be more or less back to the usual subjects. You may notice a bit of a different look to them, though, as I am still working through some of the things from class. Trying them on for size, sort of, to see what I’ll keep and what I’ll discard.

…and her eyes would always haunt him.
Another image from the model shoot I did in Keith Carter’s class. This one looks like the last page of a novel.

Water/Lily
I went to the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops to take a class with Keith Carter. It was a tough week, but now that I have the advantage of a little distance (geographic and emotional) I know that if it hadn’t been a tough week, I wouldn’t have been growing as an artist.
But, anyway, the class included shooting models, which as you know from looking at this blog is not my deal. The very idea of it made me feel like I was going to pass out. (Also: some of the models were nude.) I was tempted to opt out of the model shoot, but decided against being THAT person. And I’m glad I stayed. It was an interesting experience, and I got some images that I’m proud of. Like this one.

PS – Here’s a video of the last-night-of-class presentation from the Workshops. (There’s some nudity, so be careful…)
