This place is just across the street from a Family Dollar or a Dollar General or one of those places that have popped up everywhere; its days are likely numbered, but that may not make them worth more than any other sort of day.

The Gap

Where a building was, there’s now a parking lot filling in the gap.

We lived in New Orleans for a few years; when we first got there, someone gave us these directions: Go up Canal Street, and turn right where the bakery used to be.

Not helpful. Not one bit.

Candle Can’t Escape

Down a little street called Pirate Alley, and in the shadow of St. Louis Cathedral, there’s a certain candle being held captive on a wooden table. A silvery chain blocks its escape.

But, if it DID escape, where would it go?
