The loudest silence

This place left me feeling unsettled.

Maybe it was the way the trees were closing in on that old church. Or maybe it was the way I felt them closing in on me.

It might have been the plywood where the stained glass had been, like a blind eye somehow watching me.

Or it might have been truly a sinister place.

  3. I would not be surprised if there were a lot of snakes around this place.

    You have to wonder about the use of the plywood – why not just let it fall down quickly instead of drawing out the agony? Perhaps there was false optimism about reopening the building, or selling it.
