Easter eggshells
On Easter weekend, my friend (I’ll call her Martha, mostly because that is her name) had a few eggshells on her kitchen windowsill. They were just hanging out until she moved them to the compost bin. They will be excellent compost, but they are – if you ask me – even better subjects for a photograph.

A certain sense of desolation
Glen Echo started out as an amusement park and has been repurposed as an arts center. (Here’s the scoop.)
On the day I was there, a cold and rainy Friday, a sense of desolation permeated the place.
But on the other hand, there weren’t a lot of people around to clutter up the photographs, which got cluttered enough by the things left behind..

“There must be some kind of way out of here.”
I’ve mentioned this before – how sometimes a particular scene will make a song show up in my mind.
You can probably figure out which one it was this time, from the caption. But which version? My mind didn’t care if it was Bob Dylan or Jimi Hendrix or U2 or Eddie Vedder. But it drew the line at John Mayer.

Escalator to nowhere
After I made this image, a security guard quizzed me about why, exactly, I was taking pictures of an empty exhibit hall.
“Check out those two red circles and how they balance that red cart!”
“It’s so far down!”
“Oooh – the floor is so shiny!”
“That yellow wall is such a nice contrast to the grey floor.”
But I settled for, “I like how it looks.” She was completely confused and I didn’t stick around.

Café Islands
You know those glorious days when every single thing you see looks like it ought to be a photograph?
That’s what happened here when I spotted the tabletop archipelago.
(Full disclosure: nothing was staged. Because if it had been, I would have moved the pepper shaker away from the salt.)
