Maybe they expect one or more in the future. Then perhaps one or more are there though forgotten. Famous is so fleeting !

That “famous artists” deal was a cabinet that opened up to a (faded) display of four or five artists from around there, including Grant Speed. His Wikipedia page, however, makes no mention of any connection with Shafter… (The Buddy Holly statue here in Lubbock is one of Speed’s pieces, which I only just now found out.)
