So THAT’S where it is.
I drive by this corner twice a day, most days of the week: it’s on my way to work. Every day I think I ought to, someday, stop and get some pictures.
Then, one foggy Sunday morning, I finally did.
But, the party. You may have wondered where, exactly it was. The helpful arrow on that sign shows you which way to go for your weddings and/or corporate events.

The excellent arrow
“The excellent arrow” is what I named this the day I found it.
It was a wayfinding arrow, showing where the parking lot was, for a now-defunct restaurant in downtown Lubbock. I like the curves, the blue-and-white, the way the artist signed it, the dappled sunlight on the concrete block wall.
For that matter, I even liked the restaurant.
(Regarding my use of the urban-planning term “wayfinding” – you may not know this about me, but I actually am a licensed urban planner! That doesn’t mean much, really, except that I once passed a test and continue to pay dues to the American Planning Association. But every now and then, just to keep in practice, I throw in a planning term. Here’s another one, just for fun: road diet. It really IS an exciting profession.)

A substantial sky
Out here, in this part of Texas, there are lots of opportunities to shoot skies, and I’ve been known to shoot a few myself. Almost always, though, the skies are, well, skies – without much else going on.
But if there’s a chance to photograph a nice sky and an interesting building, why not take it?
Not only that, but this building has my favorite kind of brick on it. What? You mean not everyone has a “favorite brick”? That’s very hard to believe. But I bet by now you are wondering what my favorite is, aren’t you? It’s Roman brick, with is long and skinny compared to standard brick. (Here’s a handy chart.) The darker brick on this building is Roman brick; you can see it better if you click to enlarge the photo.

Today’s mail
Maybe some of you follow Lisa Gordon’s blog? If you don’t, you might want to head over there and check it out. On January 1, Lisa announced that she, along with Steve at Another Rich Collectible, was giving away four copies of onOne Software’s Perfect Effects 4 Premium. I was lucky enough to have been chosen.
