This old house…

This old house is probably a Starbucks or a Walgreens or something by now. This picture was taken in 2008, on what was then the northern fringes of expansion of the Dallas metro area.

  1. Here it would be either a Duncan Donuts or Tim Horton’s. We like our dough fried, please.
Iloive the “busy-ness” of this. Lots of detail.

  2. love the silhouette in the upstairs window.

  3. Great photo! I live in McKinney and drive the back roads just North of us. There are still a few old buildings that look like this but sadly, not too many will be left in the years ahead. I love growth but it sure its sad to see something like this.

  4. Ain’t gonna need this house no longer
Ain’t gonna need this house no more
Ain’t got time to fix the shingles
Ain’t got time to fix the floor

Ain’t got time to oil the hinges
Nor to mend no window pane
Ain’t gonna need this house no longer
I’m gettin’ ready to meet the saints

  5. Grand old Negro Spiritual, I’m reminded of the words thanks to Lignum Draco. I spotted the silhouette too in the window. Loads of character here, Melinda. Now, I’ll be humming that tune all afternoon while I paint those window panes of this old house.

    • Thanks, Andy. I took this a while back, before I had any idea of what I was doing. I’d like to be able to re-shoot it, but since I don’t have any idea of where, exactly, I was and because of the creeping urbanization, that’s not very likely to happen….

  6. Love these beautiful messes. Simply delightful!
