Outhouse

021416

This remote country cemetery was a few miles down a dirt road; in addition to the things you expect to see at a cemetery (graves, for example), this one had a picnic arbor, so you could have a nice lunch after the burying was done.

And, it had a couple of outhouses, too. This is the larger of the two – it was what we call around here a “three holer.” You can probably figure out what that means…

The Young Explorer

021316

You know that I don’t take photos of people. Unless they are my granddaughters.

Or, unless I notice an intrepid young explorer, heading out on a big adventure.

Car Culture, two examples

021216

Over there on the right side is a drive-in bank. Those are ubiquitous.

What caught my attention was the drive-through window at the mattress store. I am still trying to figure out the logistics of that.

But until I do, I guess I’ll just see this as an illustration of the car culture around here: why walk if you can drive. And why just drive if you can drive through?

Burritos at the Little Ranch

02116

I’ve never eaten here, but it looks like the sort of place that has really good burritos. And also the outdoor seating is quite nice.

But the best part is the way the paint has faded on the plywood sign, revealing the wood grain underneath.

Mattress Alley

021016

The alley side of the mattress store seems to be the place where excess inventory is stored. That seems a little odd to me, but the store’s be in business for a while, so who am I to question what’s working?
