Complete motor service

120913

Although I really do want to believe the sign that promises complete motor service, I sort of doubt it.

But I didn’t need my car repaired when I was in town. And I was looking around for things to photograph, so it all worked out.  My favorite thing here is that grain on the piece of plywood that’s covering (I am guessing) a window.

As it all fades away

1. On days like this one, the wind is strong, picking up dirt and flinging it skyward. The horizons blur with airborne particulates, the light takes on the same tint as the dirt, tumbleweeds stream across roadways only to be caught up in fencing. In the worst of these dust storms, cars on the highway have to use headlights and traffic slows down because it’s impossible to see very far ahead. The wind’s howl covers all other sounds save the sounds of a piece of sheet metal being ripped from its moorings or the crack of a tree limb.

2. Certain things are disappearing from the Plains. Like people. Like where they lived. Like water. Like dreams. But the wind always remains.

The ice plant: interior

120513

Remember the ice plant? Were you wondering what the inside of it looked like?

Well, here it is – at least the part of it that I could shoot through the one window that was low enough to see through. Of course, now that you can see the machinery, I am sure that you understand perfectly the process involved in making ice. Right?

Unwelcome

120413

The front yard of this place is rather a formidable obstacle for anyone who wishes to get to the front door.

Or leave from it, as far as that goes.

Call Brady

112913

My mom listened to KFYO radio every day. (Even the noon farm report, for some reason.)

I can remember the radio commercials that this plumbing company ran, with their “Lady, call Brady” tagline. I am guessing that from the looks of the place these days, any lady who DID call Brady would probably not get an answer…
