Cab ride, in the rain

030317

On the cab ride to the airport the other day, I realized that I’ve had lots of missed opportunities to take photos from back seats of cabs over the years. It just never occurred to me.

Maybe you wish I hadn’t thought about this time either…

Barbed Wire Study, LAX

030117

The thing is, when you’re a photographer, it’s nearly impossible to be bored, to have nothing to do. I filled up a few airport hours taking pictures of the activity outside the window. I guess that’s not (yet) banned.

Anyway, my head was full of lessons on micro composition and careful shooting that I’d had that weekend, so I spent a long time working on getting the barbed wire and that white rectangle exactly the way I wanted them. Likewise, over in the Air Canada terminal my friend and erstwhile classmate Ehpem spent his time similarly, but with very different results.

Because that’s what we do.

Slow Afternoon, Union Station

That particular afternoon, none of the people passing through Union Station were in the market for a new hat, leaving the vendor free to watch something on his computer.

Hollywood Boulevard (not glamorous)

The place where – I am led to believe – Playmates previously purchased their shoes is now a smoke shop. And there’s rain all day in sunny southern California.

Platform. Passengers. Pigeons.

I can’t say that I was ready for this array of pigeons and people. But I had composed my shot and was ready for something to happen.

And it did.
