Flight, as the rain approaches

These birds. There are literally (maybe) millions of them around here. They roost overnight in any tree they can find, and they don’t mind being close together: any given tree will have hundreds of them. I don’t know where they go in the day, but the ground below their trees is marked with a white layer of birdshit.

But when they are settling in for the night, a combination of approaching storms and photographers will cause them to take flight again.

Alley View

The winter-day alley view. (Look closely at the building on the right and you can see a row of tiny icicles…)

Shrubbery

I guess I don’t understand the point of planting shrubbery in front of a window…

Leftovers

Some things changed, this business closed, and in the transition, artifacts were left behind.

Be nice to people

Do you know what happens when you stand on two of those plastic chair mats (which the building’s previous occupants left behind), then lean against the wall in order to get a little further down for the shot you want?

I do.

What happens is that the top chair mat slides, silently and quickly, over the bottom one, and before you know it, you’ve landed on your ass on the floor.

But, as it turns out, sitting on the floor was actually a better vantage point to get this shot.
