shop cat

I met this kitty in Bagheria; he lives in the local cartmaker’s shop, where he keeps watch on the visitors.

(Later, after the official observation period has concluded, he will allow you to pet him.)

lemon gelato

This woman and I crossed paths that day, each of us taking in the Cattedrale di Santa Maria Nuova di Monreale. After that, she sat in the sun and had a lemon gelato, while a couple of little girls played.

Truly, this simple scene means as much to me as the magnificence of the cathedral.

(Just a reminder that even with my strong turn toward street photography, I still do photograph other subjects. Like this, for example, the Fontana di Diana, which is in the center of the Piazza Archimede.)

work is never done

It’s a life I cannot imagine – taking fishing boats out all night, coming home at dawn to sell the catch, then spending the day making repairs to nets, equipment, or the boats, then repeating it day after day.

My life has been very sheltered.

he seemed like a movie star

At this point, I believe I’ve completed my big photographic pivot – the majority of the images I made during a recent trip to Sicily were street photos. And not only that, I enjoyed seeing what was going on around me and being able to chronicle those things through my lens.

This gentleman was more than happy to strike a few poses; he had a regal bearing and one hell of a nice hat.
