fish market

Surprisingly, this is not the way anyone buys fish in west Texas – all our fish was definitely not swimming in the sea only a few hours prior to purchase.

This way looks a lot more like fish I’d want to eat.

fish/mouth

It was indeed only yesterday when I pledged my undying photographic love of street photography. So naturally, today rolls around and I post a… dead fish with ice in its mouth.

My very lame excuse is, “Well, I was standing on a street and that street contained a street market, and that’s a LOT of street references for this to NOT qualify as street photography.”

transport

Yes. I am aware that none of these people are wearing helmets. I am also aware that they were moving rapidly down a street.

But I was there for the photos, not for reforming local transportation and/or safety norms.

I did a thing.

And that thing was to make a return visit to Sicily.

The first night in Palermo, my friends and I grabbed dinner at a sidewalk place, the way you do. The whole time we were there, the proprietor of the little shop next door was washing out the pans he used to roast nuts. So naturally, I made some photographs.

This felt like a strong photographic start to the trip.

and look how far the light came

The way the late sunlight caught the wineglasses in a different way than the entire rest of the scene caught my eye.

And it reminded me of the line “Glasses of wine on a crate between us/Catch the light, seem to glow from within” from the song “Look How Far,” by Bruce Cockburn. The song was in my head for a long time that evening.
