market bread

When I imagine fresh bread, it always looks like this – with golden lighting on the loaves.

And now if you will excuse me, I need to go find a bakery…

oranges and two brooms

Citrus season is really a delightful time to visit Sicily. We had plenty of citrusy things and not a single one of us came down with scurvy.

fish market

Surprisingly, this is not the way anyone buys fish in west Texas – all our fish was definitely not swimming in the sea only a few hours prior to purchase.

This way looks a lot more like fish I’d want to eat.

lemon gelato

This woman and I crossed paths that day, each of us taking in the Cattedrale di Santa Maria Nuova di Monreale. After that, she sat in the sun and had a lemon gelato, while a couple of little girls played.

Truly, this simple scene means as much to me as the magnificence of the cathedral.

foam at sunset

It looked like we weren’t going to get a spectacular sunset at the Trapani salt pans, and we really didn’t. It was stormy and cold and very windy and it started to rain just as I was getting this shot.

And you know what? I don’t even care that the sunset was sort of a bust because if it had been gorgeous, I wouldn’t have spent any time looking at the details of the place.
