I couldn’t stay in Nova Scotia forever, although I did sort of want to. (Until winter arrived – then I’d have to leave.)

So, here I am back in Texas, where winter is a long way from its arrival. In fact, it was so hot in Menard the other day that I actually skipped looking behind every single building in town. That’s just not like me at all.

But I was out long enough to spot this excellent, and helpful, sign.

Breakfast was a big deal, I guess, judging from the size of this sign.

Lost: 2 Bulls

We nearly missed this sign. Well, we DID miss it, the first time by. At the very last second, I caught the word “lost” and decided it would probably be worth an investigative u-turn.

Turns out there are a couple of missing bulls somewhere near Spur.

The other side of the sign advertises 2 lost cows, both black.

Maybe there’s a fence in need of repair?

Evidently the fine folks in Odessa like their signage to be big. There was this theater marquee from a couple of days ago, and now this fantastic structure, which marks the location of the Great Oil Basin Shopping Center.

This sign is three or four stories tall, and I suppose at some point in its past it actually SAID the name of the shopping center. In neon. In neon that blinked and flashed and all that other fancy stuff neon signs can do.

But now it’s mute. Oh, and red.
