like a rug on a wire

Look! Here’s a rug that was stabbed onto the top wire of a barbed-wire fence. I can’t image why, but how about that color pallette?

liberty + rules

Let’s go ahead and call this folk art, because I’m not what else it might be.

The Statue of Liberty is made from a stump of one of the town trees that died; it was carved by a regionally-famous chainsaw carver.

I don’t hate it – in fact I really like repurposing the old metal tank to make sort of a retablo. But I am not a fan of the giant ten commandments over there in the background. But if you feel the need to go read them yourself, here’s Helpful Hint: there’s a spotlight on them so you don’t even have to race sundown with the short December days and all.

And, finally, here’s a Fun Fact: all of this has been assembled by the town’s mayor.

Chuck Norris found seasonal work

I’m as surprised as you are that Chuck Norris has taken a seasonal job as Joseph in a roadside nativity scene.

But if you think WE are surprised, check out Mary; apparently when she got the news it was so shocking that it made her head break open.

PS: Also, this is literally Jesus of Nazareth.

all lives

I almost talked myself out of posting this. It’s uncomfortable to look at and even worse to think about. (Plus the spelling errors…)

But of course I realized those are reasons TO post it, so here it is.

(I did find out a few details about this situation and they are pretty much what you’d expect them to be.)

cousins, the day we got in trouble

I’ve been looking through a stack of old family photos lately, and that’s how I found this gem.

That’s me on the left, with my two cousins and my sister. I don’t know what we were in trouble for having done, but I look AT LEAST 100% guilty the way I’m not making eye contact and am sort of slumped down in an effort to (maybe) disappear.

And let’s not even get me started on whatever the hell was going on with my bangs…
