Arch

I bet you’re sorry you didn’t get to see me frame up this shot! I really wanted to place the tall monument in the back between the arches of the foreground marker. I had to raise up on tiptoes, lean in over another marker, try to miss sun flares, and tilt to the left. It’s a little bit of a miracle that I didn’t injure myself.

An Illusion. Or Not.

I was in Washington, DC, recently for a conference. Of course, I took my camera. But you know what? I just wasn’t feeling it – in 5 days, I only made a handful of images.

I did get this one, though, so maybe my camera earned its keep on the trip.

2016

If these bricks and their message are to be believed, it looks like it’ll happen in 2016. You heard (or, saw) it here first.

Artists of Texas – Rural Texas photography show

It’s been a good year.

This morning, I received notification that all three images I submitted to the Artists of Texas’ Rural Texas photography show were accepted. And one of them, “Red Mud Cemetery,” was selected in the top 25 images.

The other two images in the show are “The Last Rotary” and “Bulldogs.”

All three images were made in or near Spur, Texas.

And, this seems like a good time to thank everyone who’s left a “like” or a comment or who’s stopped by the blog to see what I’m up to. You guys keep me going!

Full Circle

Urban sprawl is the deal – on our short trip to Colorado, I wanted to find some old sliding-downhil towns to photograph. And because of time restraints, I needed them to be close-in to Denver. And that’s where I met urban sprawl.

Every town we saw was new, with blocks and blocks of new houses (that all looked the same). And these new “towns” didn’t have a downtown – they didn’t need one, since the residents did everything that needed doing in Denver. It was disheartening, a little, for a photographer like me. And for other reasons, too, which I don’t have the energy to address just now.

Eventually, we made it to Johnstown, Colorado, which was a little tidier than I would have preferred but it was the best I was going to get. We were 54 miles out of Denver.

And, so, coming to you from an alley, is the Full Circle veterinary clinic.

PS – nearby is a place called Aristocratic Ranchettes. You can probably guess that I wasn’t interested in going there!
