Demonstration

We spent almost the entire day at the Nebraska State Fair – it was certainly worth the $2/person admission price!

This gentleman was hard at work, explaining over and over again the benefits of that hose nozzle. He didn’t seem to be especially bothered by the fact that not one person seemed to care, but you’d think that eventually it would get a little discouraging.

(I did kind of want to play with it, because it looked fun. But I also was pretty sure that I wouldn’t have been allowed to see just how far the water could shoot.)

Her blank stare

This cemetery madonna was weather-worn – in fact most of her face was sort of…not there. But she still stood there, doing her job.

Fall was in the air

You know how on the last hot days of summer, you can convince yourself that, even with the heat, there’s a coolness lurking in the air? It felt like that, and looking an an empty swimming pool accompanied by the sounds of kids at the nearby school playground made it seem even more fall-like.

Until a few minutes later when it was just straight up a really hot and humid day…

A rakish angle

Someone left the cemetery rake leaning against a tree, and the afternoon sun cast a nice shadow on the tree, at a (dare I say it?!) rakish angle.

Ghost Slide

The difference between this abandoned school and all the other ones I’ve shot is that the Patient Spouse attended two years of elementary school here, which made the desolation a little more depressing.

But those two slides, barely holding their own against the onslaughts of time and weeds, turn a sad place into a creepy one…
