From Apple Street
A sign on the main highway, that we’d passed by hundreds of times, is what led us (eventually)(finally) to House, New Mexico. For some reason, we’d never seen the benefit of taking a brief detour for no other reason than to see what was there. And obviously, this place isn’t for everyone, but I liked the view from the eastern-most street, looking south.
Fun Fact: when I was a kid, the highway sign pointing the way to House also pointed at an actual house. It was a source of great amusement to my mom, who’d be sad if she knew the house was gone. (And House is nearly gone, too, as far as that goes: the official population in 2017 was 63.)

The B&W is so dramatic. The 2nd shot will help me to get to House if I’m ever in the vicinity.

The black-and-white is magnificent. On what route is the sign?

Never mind. I see it’s US 84.

Yes. US 84 goes between Clovis and Fort Sumner (where you can see Billy the Kid’s grave), and you can get to House by turning at either Melrose or Taiban.

Good to know. Next time I’m driving through New Mexico I’ll make the turn.

Let me know – I’ll meet up with you in House. Or at the Billy the Kid Museum in Fort Sumner. Either way.
Also – this is on your way, probably, to the Texas State Fair. And fall in New Mexico is glorious.

You got me with the glorious fall in New Mexico. Can’t do it this year but maybe next. Here’s the deal: you be the guide and Kathy and I will be the obedient followers.

OK. It’s a deal.

Thanks, Andy. We’ve had a lot of storms this spring, so there have been good skies to photograph.
