I took a photography class a couple of years ago, taught by someone who is kind of famous, and he said we should NEVER take pictures in cemeteries because there’s nothing new to photograph. I thought then, and still do now, that he’s an idiot. I am glad I rejected his mandate!

I hate the class (and am not at all fond of the teacher), but it did allow me to realize that I can reject advice even if it’s from someone famous, if it doesn’t match my own sensibilities and vision.

I made me realize how much more confidence I had in my work if I was able to reject stuff the famous guy said I “had” to do.
