An exuberance

The array of summer flowers is dependent on winter moisture; every summer looks a little different. These flowers got plenty of whatever it was they needed – they were blooming all over the northeastern corner of New Mexico.

Pendulum

When I was a little kid, my family attended Forrest Heights Methodist Church. We were regulars, the sort of family who sat in the same pew every week. The church sanctuary was the first built space I had a strong affection for – the mid-century lines and combination of building materials felt right to me. I liked the light fixtures, too; they were big and stately and (to me) very church-like.

Not at all like this light, which looks like it should be hanging over Great Aunt Mabel’s kitchen table.

The sunny side we also may view

Typical road trip conversation*:

Me: Look over there, at that old church/house/cemetery/etc.!

Patient Spouse: What? Where?

Me: OK. You have to make a u-turn.

Patient Spouse:

And that’s how I got this shot.

Bratwurst (no longer available)

It seemed like a good weekend to get away from home, and we ended up in Abilene. It’s a good thing, I guess, that we didn’t want to have a nice meal of brats while we were there since this place was out of business.

Taking the low road

The glass in the door of this place was gone and someone had nailed up a piece of wood over the hole. Well, nearly over the hole: there was a bit of a gap at the bottom. A camera-sized gap. If you know what I’m getting at here.

(I thought the photo was going to be about those left-over cars, but now I am starting to think it’s really about that metal ceiling, hanging in tatters.)
