he seemed like a movie star
At this point, I believe I’ve completed my big photographic pivot – the majority of the images I made during a recent trip to Sicily were street photos. And not only that, I enjoyed seeing what was going on around me and being able to chronicle those things through my lens.

I did a thing.
And that thing was to make a return visit to Sicily.
The first night in Palermo, my friends and I grabbed dinner at a sidewalk place, the way you do. The whole time we were there, the proprietor of the little shop next door was washing out the pans he used to roast nuts. So naturally, I made some photographs.
This felt like a strong photographic start to the trip.

There is no way that I am a good enough photographer to convey how freaking cold it was that day. The wind – that damn non-stop straight-from-the-North-Pole wind – cut right through me.
I did have enough foresight to bring winter gear with me and my big coat was nice and warm. My hat and gloves were less helpful, largely because for some ridiculous reason I left them in the car. Winter survival skills are not necessarily something I am skilled at, as you could probably already ascertain.
