Hard Water Area
The water around here, pumped to the surface from the Ogallala Aquifer, is hard – full of dissolved minerals and high in calcium and magnesium carbonates.
And it sure does seem odd that water could be harmful enough to require a warning sign, but hard water can indeed damage paint on a car. Really!
I’ve never seen a sign like this before, though, and my brain just refused to believe was it was seeing, and translated the sign to read “Hard Hat Area” but that didn’t make any more sense. Sometimes my brain gets ahead of itself like that, but it usually comes around. Eventually.

Groundskeeper’s shack has the mange
Well, this looks pretty bad, doesn’t it?
As I was stomping my way through dead grass to get over to this shack, I saw a dun-colored tuft of something stuck in the weeds, and I though it was a piece of some kind of animal fur. Of course it wasn’t that at all – it was a piece of insulation that had escaped from the building.
My wilderness skills remain strong.

Welcome, worn thin
Sure, I just invited myself in to explore the abandoned golf course. But in my defense, I was still able to read the word “welcome” on that sign, which I think probably puts me on pretty solid legal ground.
Also, I’m not a lawyer, which you could already figure out.
