in the room of sorrows

A room in what used to be a Carmelite monastary.

Lately I’ve been shooting a lot of unmade beds; I am not entirely sure what that means or where it’s going, but the Muse hasn’t lead me (very far) astray yet, so I’ll continue to follow her.

Snow-globe Jesus

I go to a lot of cemeteries.

I’d never seen anything like this before – a jar put into service as a sort of snow-globe Jesus pressed into the concrete cross.

Stay Happy

I posted a photo of this burned-out liquor store back in 2012.

This time I noticed some new graffiti. I did the usual two-U-turn maneuver to get the shot. I thought I’d need the reminder.

Mother Road

The famous Route 66 was one of the first highways in the national highway system; it covered some 2,440 miles from Chicago, Illinois, to Santa Monica, California. It lost its official designation in 1985, after it had been replaced in its entirety by the Interstate highway system.

But it still lives on in legend and myth. And, of course, in giant roadside billboards.

only seeing where you used to be

I went to this cemetery in the spring, and made a return visit just before Christmas.

The second visit was much sadder, for many reasons – some of which had to do with the snow and those footprints. It was also closing in on the anniversary of my mother’s death, which tinges everything with sadness at the end of December.

So, here’s a sad song, “Closer to the Light,”, for today’s Bruce Cockburn link.
