zen: one leaf

It is sort of embarrassing to admit how little thought I’ve traditionally give to botanic gardens.

But a couple of things led us to this one. The first one was running into a friend at the airport who recommended a visit. And the second was seeing a series of gorgeous flower photos a friend of mine worked on this summer at several botanic gardens.

So: we went. It was already fall in Colorado and there was a light rain for a few hours.

My attempts at photographing flowers weren’t all that great, so here’s a leaf.

hummer

I’m not a person who photographs birds on the regular. I am, instead, a person who knows enough about a camera to make sure the correct focusing method is selected when there is a hummingbird flying around and who also knows to turn on continuous shooting mode.

That is all. Please carry on.

like ships in the night

People walking in the light rain showers seemed like they didn’t even notice each other. But I was on site, camera at the ready…

night moves

My hotel view in Denver included this nice angle on the Denver Performing Arts Complex’s roof.

Historical Note: two nights before I made this shot, Lauren Bobert was escorted from one of the theaters in this complex during a performance of Beetlejuice. And the thing is that I actually looked for tickets to see Beetlejuice at that theater but there were two of us and only single seats available. If I’d had the seats instead of Bobert and her handsy date, I would have behaved (because I know how to act in public) and been able to stay for the entire show.

The weather was about to turn cool and rainy. But until it did, kids were busy playing in the fountains outside Union Station.
