Well.

This is the only place I’ve seen a community well building. I mean it’s the only place I’ve seen one that SAYS so.

(Villanueva is not really on the way to anywhere, if you’re normal and take regular routes. It was a nice surprise – it felt like we’d found ourselves in another time and place. But it was a place where there were wells.)

Sometimes I get the feeling that buildings send mixed messages. Here’s an example: a cross on the door AND a padlock, keeping everyone out.

If you take the back roads, sometimes you’ll end up driving down into a valley with  a tiny town at the bottom and that also feels like maybe you drove all the way into another place, another time. And maybe you’ll stop there for an hour or so. And maybe you’ll feel an overwhelming sadness as you leave, knowing you’re returning to the same place, the same time that you’d just left.
