Bitter edges of a winter day

Christmas Eve in a cemetery seemed quite bleak anyway. And there was snow and a new storm moving in, both of which added to the feel of the day.

And this plastic, brittle and broken in the cold, and barbed wire? It just got worse.

Illuminations

Remember yesterday, when I posted my first-ever photo of Moriarty, New Mexico?

Here’s what I saw in the (gigantic) parking lot of a fireworks stand. See how those flags and banners are held by the wind? And see the puddles in the parking lot? That, plus the fact that I had an absolutely inappropriate coat will explain why I didn’t stay very long in Moriarty. But at least I got off the highway, finally, and looked around.

Available Seating

In the summer, these seats are full of people who’ve come here to see the musical “Texas”, a musical that’s (sort of) based on the history of this part of Texas. (Apparently ALL the early settlers could sing and dance! Amazing!)

Anyway, at the end of December, the place is empty.

Guess which way I like it?

Half Iced

The upwind sides of the vegetation was coated with ice first. It would have been a glittering, magical landscape if the sun had come out…
