More parking

020414

You may recall that I’ve mentioned (endlessly) how much I enjoy taking photos in alleys.

But I also like underground parking garages, like this one under the Hilton Hotel in downtown Austin.

Careful, though, if you’re wanting to use that door: that first step is sort of formidable.

The desolation of the genre

020314

I never saw this place before it was ruins, so I don’t know what it used to be.  Maybe a small motel? A roadhouse? A private residence?

Whatever it was, it’s got a lot of company.  Just a little ways down the road is this abandoned motel , and back in the other direction is what’s left of the Hi-Way Cafe.

Roadside businesses seem to have fallen on hard times.

Kamloops Cowboy Festival

I am grateful to my good friend Brett Erickson, who told me about the Art of the West Show and Sale at the Kamloops Cowboy Festival in Kamloops, British Columbia. Actually, in addition to telling me about the show, he encouraged me to enter. And I am glad I did: two of my photographs were accepted into the show.

So, if you happen to be in or around Kamloops from March 14-16, please stop by, and you can see these photos:

#1 Fans

020214

Do you qualify as a #1 Fan of the Dallas Cowboys? No, I don’t either. But if we DID, this is where we could hang out. There are some rules, though, according to the numerous hand-written signs taped to the door. You have to be over 21 to enter. You have to fork over a five buck cover charge. And you can smoke only in “desenated” areas, which are further defined as “in back.”

PS: My spouse suggested that this should post on Super Bowl Sunday, in honor of the Cowboys and their triumphant return to today’s Big Game.

Texas, far west (the book)

2013 book cover

I am not a salesperson – I couldn’t even sell Girl Scout cookies, and those things practically sell themselves.

But, I did want to mention that, if you are in the market for a self-published photography book featuring my favorites images from last year’s postings here at One Day | One Image, you can go here and check out my newly-published book..

Or, you can click on the badge on the sidebar.

At any rate, there’s a book out there that maybe you’ll want.

Unfortunately, however, I no longer sell Girl Scout cookies.
