Tombstones may be on the move

Is it just me? (Probably)

Those short, bright tombstones give the appearance of congregating, ready to move along.

At any rate, I left the cemetery before they did.

Nightclub, daytime

So, what do you think? Should we just assume this place looks great in the dim, beery light of nighttime?

Perils of outdoor seating

These old fiberglass chairs have taken on a bit of water; I hope they don’t turn into mosquito-breeding tanks.

Terri Hendrix’s Guitar

090216

Almost twenty years ago, my friend Darryl called to invite me to a concert; he said the musician was great and would be worth the drive (90 miles, one way). I turned him down, because it was in the middle of the week and I didn’t want to get home that late. Darryl, never one to take no for an answer, kept asking and asking until it was finally easier to give in.

And so it was that on that night in Nazareth, Texas, I became a fan of Terri Hendrix and her music and have followed her career ever since. Recently, she and her musical partner, the incomparable Lloyd Maines stopped by Lubbock to perform at a house concert.

(Another thing that happened at that house concert is that I was called on stage to sing the chorus of the encore song. My singing out loud in public actually violated several local ordinances, mostly dealing with nuisance noises, but I wasn’t arrested or anything. Also, I stood as far away from the mic as I could get.)

The Bottom of the Storm

Sometimes, especially when the sun’s at a low angle, the bottoms of thunderclouds look even more dramatic than the tops of them do.
