alpacas enjoy carrots

On our last night in Tesuque, after we’d gone to see Lyle Lovett at the Santa Fe Opera, we stopped by a grocery store to get carrots. Not because we needed some vitamins or a delicious orange snack – we went because the handbook o’ instructions at our vacation rental indicated that the resident alpacas loved carrots. We’d been watching the alpacas all week and wanted to leave on good terms and all, so we fed them the carrots then got in the car and headed onward.

But not before the property manager showed us the bear tracks from the night before. (We did not provide bear snacks.)

sacred rocks

Sometimes rocks piled together are just a pile of rocks.

Then there was this time…

He is waiting for the sweepers to show up

Huh – this series of posts has turned out to have a bit of a religious slant, which is as much of a surprise to me as it is to you.

Anyway.

This is an abandoned church/community center, and the afternoon light made the place glow with blue (or heavenly?) light. And look! There’s Jesus, casting His eyes toward the brooms and wondering when the custodians will be showing up. Or, you know, something like that.

still a loss (108 years later)

You’d have to be pretty cold-hearted for this lonely little gravestone to not make you feel sad for Hudson and Mary. In my opinion.

welcome, only stay out

Sometimes I get the feeling that buildings send mixed messages. Here’s an example: a cross on the door AND a padlock, keeping everyone out.
