Miss Hannah Harvey and her dad learn about mummies

Miss Hannah Harvey has an active and inquisitive mind – in addition to her interest in fashion design, she’s got a deep knowledge of Egyptian mythology (that she learned on her own) so of course this exhibit of mummies was fascinating. She and her dad enjoyed their time together, too – with their respective travel schedules (her – summer camp; him – Dubai), they’d been apart for a couple of weeks immediately prior to this Chicago excursion. It was easy to see that they’d missed each other!

Cloud Gate, 2

I think it is actually against the law to go to Cloud Gate and not take a photo of downtown buildings distorted by the curves…

Cloud Gate, 1

Miss Hannah Harvey was inspired by the open framework of the Pritzker Pavilion, and sat on a ledge to work on a dress design* and was completely unaware of the famous Cloud Gate sculpture right behind her. Art, as of course you know, just HAS to come before sightseeing.

*Really. She’s an interesting kid.

Frank Gehry’s busy

And so is his architecture, most of which gives me a headache.

This one was no exception.

I try to respond to comments right away, but this week I’m away and it may take me a few days to get back to you. Please do comment, though….

Angel branches

If you ask me, the best thing to see in Chicago is the Graceland Cemetery; its website proclaims it to be a Chicago treasure, and I certainly agree with that.

I was glad I visited early in the spring, before the trees had leafed out – otherwise I’d have not seen this angel, or at least not seen her this way.

I’ve posted other shots from this cemetery, including illustrating what acid rain does to statues, an odd combination of flowers and a serpent, and a statue that inspired a poem.

If you go, be sure to stop off at the office, where you can get a map showing the location of the most famous dead people there. You’ll be surprised at how many you’ve heard of.
