there used to be a grocery store
Of course the grocery store has closed. That’s, sadly, a common thing in these rural towns out here.
They’re replaced by nothing or by convenience stores or by dollar stores, none of which completely fill the gap, but all of which contribute to the rise of food deserts.

It was lunch time, and I decided that what I really wanted for lunch was an apple. And while I was inside the town’s only grocery store, Moore’s Thriftway, I noticed that there were a lot of promising photos in there just waiting to be made.
Also, just for fun, I read some of the reviews of the store. Here are a few of my favorites:
- Best grocery store ever!
- Only grocery store here.
- The prices are quite expensive.
- A lot of their prices are cheaper than Wal Mart.
- Name is misleading. Not really a thrift store.

WARNING-WARNING-WARNING: Color Image
What’s all this? A color image? Have I gone insane?
This giant stack of mandarins just demanded to be in color. There was no way I was going to win that particular argument. And it only gets weirder from here: there are two more days of color images coming up. If that’s too much for to you handle, just come back on January 25th, and things will be back to normal* around here.

*Or, you know, what passes for normal, anyway.
Staples
The back room of the only supermarket on the island. This store, the MH Supermarket, opened in 2008, and it “replaced an old, much smaller, timber-boarded outlet.”
In addition to groceries (including, apparently, a lot of onions), the store sold furniture, household appliances, and school supplies.
