Stored Circles

070616

Remember that time when I said “Art is where art is?”? And I’d found what I considered to be art in a storeroom at an arts center? Well, I stand by that statement – these stored tables were in the very same room.

It’s not too far a stretch from always looking around back to always peeking around a corner, is it?

My Patient Spouse said, “There are some great storm clouds south of town. Let’s drive out that way so you can take some photos.”

He was right – the clouds were very nice. But I turned my back to them (literally) because I saw this sign. You’d think he’d be used to that sort of behavior by now!

One of the surprising things around Lubbock, given its reputation as a place without discernible topography, is the canyon that’s to the east of town. (Here’s more information, and that photo titled Yellowhouse Canyon near Slaton, Texas is exactly the view we’ll have from our future house.)

But I digress.

This is the entrance to a now-defunct radio-controled airplane club. At least, that’s what I’ve heard, fourth or fifth hand. But even if that’s not accurate information (the part about the RC planes, I mean, as I am pretty sure whatever was there isn’t in operation any longer) I like how the sign hangs there in the trees and the little caliche road wanders over the hill.

Bench, below

At the first level spot below the rim of the canyon, a narrow and broken bench is weathering away. I check on it often, but it’s never seemed right to drag it back up to the top and try to repair it. I guess it’s more compelling as the subject of photos than it would be as something to sit on.

At the barricade

Earlier this spring, I rented a camera for a week, and used it as often as I could – I wanted to get my money’s worth!

That’s why I was walking around the civic center on a Saturday morning, where I found two out-of-work barricades and a trash can.
