The line beyond

121114

This is my country place.

Or, it’s a hut that happened to be already there when I bought the land. One of these days – sooner, rather than later, I’d say – it’s going to fall down. But for now, it makes an accommodating subject for a late afternoon photo. I like the ambiguity of the horizon line in the window – it’s hard to tell if it’s a reflection or if it’s a view all the way through the hut.

Oh, and while I was outside making this image, there were three other photographers inside. They were all from out of state, so I left them to the inside: I can go back any time.

Dress form

A dress form stands guard at a second story window.

Last week, some of my photography pals were in town for a show and we took advantage of a nice day and spent the morning at the National Ranching Heritage Center. We were almost the only visitors, but there were lots of workers around getting ready for a big event there this weekend. The workers were kind enough to let us go inside two of the houses, which are normally not open to the public.

And that’s how I got to make this photo.

Starting at joist #29

Here’s the second floor of the same building from yesterday. Those numbered joists are a nice touch, I think. It’ll be a shame when the final construction work covers them up…

Elephant Woman

I felt weird enough just taking a picture of this huge banner at the carnival; I sure didn’t feel like going inside…

Although I might have been interested in finding the person responsible for the random apostrophes on Olga’s banner.

Self portrait (or as close as you’ll ever see)

Yes, those are my feet.

I was watching the storm on the east edge of town as it built up. I am not particularly good at just sitting, and watching, and waiting for something to happen. But, Brett Erickson has been encouraging me to take a much slower approach to my work, and I was giving it a try. (Brett hasn’t steered me wrong so far.) That storm was interesting but I have to say I got a little bored by the time I left.

So I made a picture of my feet.

Clearly, I still need to work on that sitting and waiting deal a little bit more…

(I am gone for a while, and will not be responding to comments right away. But make some anyway, if you feel inclined, and I’ll get back to you – it just won’t be right away.)
