the photographer’s assistant

Late afternoon sunlight drew quite a few photographers and their clients to the beach. Oh, and their assistants were there, too.

I made this shot without having time to compose it because I really, really wanted the reflector blocking the face of the kid that was being photographed. There is the tiniest chance that I followed them around for a while, hoping to get a better version of this shot, but that never happened…

sky: afire

Let’s just go ahead and get this out of the way: I went to Maine. There was a spectacular sunset one night.

There was other stuff too, so stay tuned. But also know that that nothing else I post is going to be quite this dramatic.

the case of the nightmare doll

The evidence keeps accumulating. And as it does, I become more and more convinced that “creepy dolls” is a redundant term.

(Also – and my shooting partner for the day will verify this – all the dolls in this window display were zip-tied in place. ZIP-TIED. What the hell is going on?)

a lady always wears pearls

Yes, ladies, pearls are the proper accessory. According to the Internet, they “create a visual impact that feels both timeless and trendy, making them the perfect accessory for everything from a cozy sweater to a sleek cocktail dress.” Additionally, they also make an impact if you are a naked mannequin in a shop window in Oklahoma. And, honestly, it’s hard to be more timeless and more trendy than that.

at temple + main

I was standing near the corner of Temple Street and Main Street, which is as good a place as any to take a photo of an out-of-business church reflected in an out-of-business business.
