shortly it would begin to rain

Actually, “Shortly it would begin to rain.” could have been the complete weather forecast for the whole time I was in Scotland.

It was almost always about to rain, and this photo was made just before another patch of cold rain fell on us. It wasn’t so bad, once you got used to it. Plus the clouds! They worked hard to enhance the photographs.

bridged

The old and new Queensferry bridges, spanning the Firth of Forth, photographed from water level in North Queensferry. (Many thanks to Sam Thomson and Steven Thomson at Edinburgh Tour Guides for showing us this out-of-the-way spot.)

waterfront

It might look too pretty to be real. But I promise you that Tobermory really IS this lovely.

behind the shops

Why, yes! I did turn down a small passageway behind some shops. How else would I have known that the slats in the reflection were generally parallel to the handrail on the steps?

when the trail seems unclear

When the trails seem unclear, it seems easy to keep your eyes to the ground, trudging along and hoping for the best.

But maybe a good idea is to look up and take stock of what’s actually there in front of you. It’s probably a lot different than the scary things your mind conjured up while you trudged along.
