exhausting

This is an extremely typical street scene, with a tight mix of cars and people and streetcar tracks and motorcycles. And cobblestones and asphalt and potholes and puddles. Oh, and some exhaust fumes, too.

it was his move

If I knew anything more than just the most basic of things about chess, perhaps I could offer an analysis of what was going on in this street-side game.

So, really, the only thing I can offer is to note that it’s cool the way those chess pieces are the same color as the wall.

estefanía and kids and cars

The ballet dancer attracted a group of onlookers, including these kids. She was gracious enough to pose with them and everyone seemed pretty happy about it.

(As an added photographic bonus there was a row of vintage cars parked right there.)

love + mosaic

We spent the first morning in Cuba wandering the streets of Cojímar, a town near Havana. The place is considered to be an inspiration for The Old Man and the Sea and there’s a monument to Ernest Hemingway. In the 1940s, what may or may not have been the largest whale shark ever was caught nearby; there is – according to Wikipedia – “considerable controversy” over the accuracy of the measurements.

In modern times, actor William Gutiérrez-Levy and singer-songwriter Camila Cabello are both from Cojímar.

The woman in the photo is not Hemingway, Guitêrrez-Levy, or Cabello.

But probably you figured that out. Especially the part about how she’s not Hemingway.

all waiting for the same thing

This guy was watching our group of photographers and waiting for his next pedi-cab customer. And probably some of us were watching him and also waiting for his next customer.

It may have been some sort of a stand-off.
