cactus + abandonment

farm stand

It wasn’t a farm stand in the sense of “Oh, look! Fresh tomatoes!!” but at some point it looked like it had been. Now it was sort of an “I’m making a u-turn to photograph that old place.” situation.

corner store

This used to be a thriving corner, right there at the intersection of Main and Railway Streets. It has, however, gotten over that, with nearly the entire block of buildings sitting vacant. It’s not anything I haven’t seen before in a thousand little towns, but it still made me sad to see the same scene repeated here.

Pro tip: if you are in Central Texas in the summer and it’s like hundreds of degrees outside and you think the heat’s going to literally melt you, go to the museum. The folks running the place will be happy to see you (and will tell you as many stories about the stuff as you’ll want to hear), the air conditioning’s nice, and there are things to photograph.
