After hours

06112016

My Patient Spouse was driving along the old Route 66 in Amarillo the other morning, and I was looking for something interesting to photograph. It wasn’t a surprise to him – and won’t be to you, either – that the very first thing that caught my attention was a window to look through.

The difference here is that this place is still in operation, which puts it apart from the usual shots. Look at me, pushing the limits!

Not too much service any more

061016

Just another one of the many abandoned service stations in shrinking towns on the Plains.

On an important historical note, the most expensive pig ever sold was owned by a Hermleigh resident. Jefferey Roemisch of Hermleigh sold his cross-breed barrow* named “Bud” for a record breaking $56,000 in 1983 to a man named Bud Olson and his partner, Phil Bonzio. I thought you’d want to know.

* Were you wondering what a “barrow” is? Yes, I thought you were.

All alone on Soledad Street

060916

A store-front mission on Soledad Street in downtown San Antonio, Texas. The door was locked, and there weren’t any signs to indicate days or hours it might be open, or even the name of the place. All of which seems somehow fitting, given its location on a street whose name means “solitary.”

Laundry Day

060816

I know this doesn’t even sound like me at all, but I was really trying to get a shot of the man pushing this laundry cart along the street. That didn’t work out very well – neither he nor the smattering of pedestrians were cooperative – so I ended up going with what I know: a shot where the people are implied.

Self-portrait: a rare image

060716

I am diligent about not posting photos of myself. This isn’t that kind of blog. Yet, somehow, there I am.
