El Sol and a shopper

A recent version of my photographic self would have not liked it that the masked gentleman walked into the frame. New Me, however, thought, “Well, why not?” and when ahead and decided to like-enough-to-post an image with three quarters of a person in it.

Keith, ready to dance

Our fantastic tour leader Keith Skelton, posing in the doorway of a place that promised dancing and cocktails.

Sadly, we were not able to enjoy either one, as the place had been gutted by a fire. But it was OK: even for a photographer as talented as Keith, it’s gotta be hard to dance AND drink AND make photos all at the same time.

duck

If it looks like a duck…it might actually be a worse-for-wear duck decoy in a dead tree.

REPENT

Well, no visit to the area can be complete without a stop at Salvation Mountain, a visionary environment in the desert. The mountain itself is “made of adobe bricks, discarded tires and windows, automobile parts and thousands of gallons of paint” and is covered with paintings and symbols and Christian saying and Bible verses. On the grounds, there are several vehicles with similar decorations.

dune-edge

As the day’s light crept across the sand, the patterns grew deeper before fading in the full light of morning. The ruffled edge of the dune held for seconds then was gone, never to reappear in the same place or form again.
