so. much. knotty. pine.

The day it was 109° at home was – by a very odd coincidence – the day I decided that a weekend in the mountains was the thing that needed to happen.

The cabin had just the right amount of knotty pine paneling to make it feel like we were inside a tree. And the elevation – almost 8,700 feet – meant that it was nice and cool.

pool (4th floor view)

So, what happened was that the crew installing the conduit for the new fiber lines installed that conduit RIGHT THROUGH THE MIDDLE of our sewer line. And that made our sewer, uh, not drain. And THAT led us to a lovely little staycation at a local hotel that did have operable sewers.

And that, naturally, led me to make this photo of the swimming pool from the 4th floor elevator lobby.

Because I did take my camera with me on our little trip.

fan distortions

Now, you might think there’s no reason to bother going to Hagerman, New Mexico, but I am here to tell you that if you decide against going there, then you’ll miss this fan in the furthest west window of the First Presbyterian Church. (You’ll also maybe miss a worried-looking woman asking you if you know where Tawny is…apparently there was supposed to be a wedding? I didn’t stick around to see what happened, but maybe I ought to have.)

cowboy country

We went out of our way (but not by much) because we’d heard about the deliciousness that is the Steak House. The food was worth the additional 26 miles of driving, but really, those cowboys with their spurs and all were the best part of the stop.

watershed

A pine tree in the cemetery shedding raindrops, or how I used the continuous shooting feature to get what I knew would be there.
